Event: Excitement for Animeland Wasabi 2014

It's time for another con and I could not be more excited for Animeland Wasabi.  As an Anime fan I am stoked for this con, and the anime convention we have been anticipating for weeks is finally almost here.  Just like last weekend I am reporting for Lords of geek as well as my own site.

There are so many great guests attending to this years event and my biggest excitement was for the voice
actors they have attending this year.  The two voice actors I am most excited for is John DiMaggio and Billy West.  DiMaggio who is Bender on Futurama and Billy West who plays Fry on Futurama.  West also played Stimpy on Ren and Stimpy, and he also was Doug Funnie from the kids cartoon Doug.  Both men are extremely talented voice actors and I can't wait to see them both.  Jessica Dicicco is also another talented voice actress that is attending, and if you are not familiar with her work she plays Flame Princess on Adventure Time.  These are my favorite voice actors that are attending, but there are tons of other great voice actors attending.  There are also some great Television actors coming.  Emilie Ullercup is a guest attending and is also a guest.  She played in played in Battlestar Galactica, Sanctuary, and Blood Ties. Teryl Rothery is also coming who played in Arrow and Stargate SG-1.  There are also some other guests attending other than actors and TV personalities.  Gamers, Eric Wile is a guest and he is a game developer that did the following games: Planetside, Star Wars Galaxies, and Everquest II.  Geek Comedian Karl "Uncle Yo" Cluster Jr. is also a guest who is a stand up geek comedian, and a internet and podcasting personality.  If you want autographs they range anywhere from $20-$50 depending on the guest.   Animeland has a list of all the guests and autograph fees, so if you want to know a price for a specific guest then make sure to check it out on their website.

Let's not forget the talent in cosplay and costumes.  Nicole Marie Jean will be there as well as Destiny Nickelsen.  Both ladies are extremely talented with what they do and if you are interested in the cosplay World they are definitely the ones to learn from.  Friend and famous Cosplayer Nicole Marie Jean is one of my personal favorites.  Not only does she have some great talent, but the girl is an all out geek.  There are plenty of great cosplayers that are talented, but she is someone that knows her geek facts.  Its great talking with her because she is knowledgeable about the things that all of us geeks like to talk about.  Make sure to stop by both girls tables and booths.

Animeland Wasabi not only has a lot of great guests attending but they also have a lot of great activities going
on all weekend long.  There are activities for everyone there, including activities for little ones and families.  One of the biggest activities going on is the Supercon 2K series.  If you are a hardcore gamer, or just an every once in a while gamer the Supercon 2K series will have something for you.  There are tournaments, raffles, prizes, and all kinds of other great gaming activities to get your gamer fix for the weekend.  On  Friday at 3:00 pm there is also the Maid Cafe where you can go and meet the Maids of Animeland and have cocktails and food with them.  There is also Technosabi on Saturday night which is the rave for the convention, and it even has extended hours until 4:00 am.  There will be tons of great DJ's throughout the convention and some great musical guests at Technosabi.  If you already have a badge for this day then you will not need to pay.  Otherwise its $15 if you pre register, and $25 at the door. There will also be tons of great panels, and other activities for people of all ages.

After you see all the main attractions and celebreties you want to see its great walking through Aritist Alley and the dealer room.   Its great to talk to some other artists and see all the great merchandise that Animeland Wasabi has to offer.  They have so many talented artists coming this year and I cannot wait to catch up with some of them.  Animeland also has tons of great sponsors that I am sure you will like to stop by and see.  The follwing sponsor this years con:  Beston Entertainment, Colorado Cutthroat Connection,  Colorado Movie Cars, Conclave of Gamers, Custom Build Katana Experts, Denver Comic Con, and Westwood College.  I can't wait to catch up with our friends at Colorado Movie Cars and Denver Comic Con.

If you need overnight accommodations the Crowne Plaza is sold out on hotel rooms, but don't worry there are plenty of other hotels with other great accommodations.  There is also a shuttle service from the Crowne Plaza to the other hotels so you still will not have to worry about transportation if you are coming from out of town. I hope to see you there this weekend and I am pumped for another awesome Anime convention.

    Event: Galaxy Fest III

This weekend I was covering Galaxy Fest as press for our friends at Lords of Geek.  Overall, it was a great weekend and the perfect event to start out the con season with.  I met up with our friends from Girls of Geek12 and had an great time rocking out this con with them.  Galaxy Fest is a much more laid back con, but it was the perfect way to start out the con season, and it was great to be able to walk around with friends and be able to see everything since the schedule is spread apart.

The dealer room was fun to walk through there was a lot of great merchandise.  I picked up a few things
being the comic book and toy collector that I am.   There was one guy who had a booth with comics and he had a lot that were sold in packs between 5 and 20 comics in a pack and I was more than happy to add to my Guardians of the Galaxy collection.  I picked up and they were sold in two seperate packs.  I also picked up a Doctor Who collectible. The most enjoyable booth for me was the Colorado Springs Toy Collector con.  The guy who runs it, Clint was such a nice guy and let me tell you he knows his toys.  He had a very impressive table set up with a lot of amazing toys and I could have bought every single one of them.  I have been wanting to buy some more Walking Dead toys so I picked up a Merle and Daryl Dixon set.  I love the Todd Mcfarlane toys and try to pick them up when I can.  His prices were lower than market value so it was hard to resist from buying.  If you are in the Colorado area make sure to check out the Colorado Springs Comic and Toy Con from April 12th and 13th. There was also another table where Gary Alan Weston made the most amazing things and he made them with things around the house, and several of the things he made had common household purposes.  He had a Dalek that was made out of an ice bucket, and also had another creative project that was also a smoke detector.  He had a lot of steampunk projects, and there was a robot chicken that most of you geeks would enjoy. The dealer room was a lot of fun to walk
through and I had a fun time checking out and purchasing some of the geeky merchandise that they had to offer.  We walked through the dealer room both days and it was a great time and catching up with some of the tables a few days in a row.  There was something for everyone there, they had mens clothing, kids, and also tons of jewelry for the ladies.

The dealer room wasn't the only place with tables set up, there were also some tables set up in the hallway.
501st Legion was there as well as Rocky Mountain Fan Force.  It is always great catching up with the big Star Wars fan groups.  There were also a few tables for the other cons such as animeland (attending next weekend), and also Rocky Mountain con.  R2 builders is another table I always like to catch up with.  They make the most creative models.  I also enjoyed a Doctor Who table that is created solely for Fundraising on Sunday morning created by Duncan Macloed.  It was really cool because the guy that ran it build the Daleks just from supplies at Home Depot.  I spoke with him for a few minutes, and he was from England.  He really liked to talk about how much of a difference the fans were in England compared to America.  He likes to travel around the United States and raise money for his fundraiser.  The name of his organization is AZ Tardis so make sure to check it out he has some amazing things to look at even if you can't donate.

There were also a few activities going on throughout the weekend that were small but still fun. We glanced in
the gaming room for a few minutes and watched all the gamers have their own little competition.  The Intendence Film Festival was also having a independent film competition most of the day Saturday, and Sunday there was a Q&A where attendees could ask the film directors questions.  We watched for a few minutes each day, and there seemed to be a lot of aspiring film makers.  There was also a Doctor Who panel (same time as the fashion show), and a writing intro panel on Sunday.  There was a room with a portable planetarium, and I must say this was very awesome.  I had never seen a portable one before, and when we peeked inside it was just as pleasurable as any full sized planetarium I have been to.

Towards the end of the night on Saturday there was a fashion show with costumes.  There was one girl that had a body paint costume that was very unique and it was a great costume.  There were also a lot of other costumes that we saw throughout the lobby that were pretty awesome too.  It seemed the later in the weekend it got, the better the costumes were.  There seemed to be the most Steampunk out of anything else, and they were quite the creative costumes.

The hotel accommodations definitely met my expectations, it was a nice hotel and room.  Coming from anywhere but the springs it's the perfect place to stay and I always prefer staying at the hotel where the con is at if I can.  Please check out all the people we were able to catch up with over the weekend and be sure to check out their websites and the great things they all have to offer.  And we hope to see you next year at Galaxy Fest III, we are also going to make it up for the Colorado Springs Comic and Toy con so make sure you join us for that as well.

Denver Comic Con: Guest Announcements #6

Ever since last year's Denver Comic Con ended we have been pumped for DCC 2014, and so many great guests have been revealed already and more incredible guests have been added to next years event. Three more guests have been added and we can't wait to see them as well as some additional amazing guests for Denver Comic Con 2014.  There have already been some great guests announced for this years event and there are some more that were announced over the weekend.

Timelords, you will be extra pumped about the next guest that Denver Comic Con announced.  Peter Davison was the next guest announced.  That's right, the fifth doctor will be at this years event.  For those of you that didn't watch Doctor Who at this time he played the Doctor from 1981 to 1984.  He broke the record for playing the youngest Doctor until Matt Smith took over in 2009.  Over the years he has returned to Doctor Who and came back for Time Crash, a special episode written by Steven Moffat which featured the Fifth Doctor meeting the Tenth Doctor, played by future son-in-law David Tennant.  He also has many other roles which include but are not limited to: A Very Peculiar Practice, All Creatures Great and Small, Fiddler's Three, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, The Tomorrow People, Mixed Blessings, and Mystery.  I can't wait to see Peter Davison at Denver Comic Con this year

The next guest is Gareth Hinds who is a literary illustrator.  His work is amazing and he is known for:  Beowulf, King Lear, Romeo and Juliet, The Odyssey, and The Merchant of Venice. Beowulf and The Odyssey are two of my personal literary favorites so I cannot wait to see Gareth Hinds.  Its great to not only get some great comic book artists, but also some amazing literary artists as well.

Denver Comic Con not only holds one of the best cons in the nation, but there are also some great benefits when you attend.  The main benefit in going to Denver Comic Con is the proceeds go to
Comic Book Classroom, a literacy program for kids.  Not only will you be attending one of the best cons in the nation, but you will also be contributing to what matters the most, our kids and future kids.  Comic Book Classroom has excellent panels and activities throughout the con, and we felt like all 4 of our tickets were easily paid for in the activities the kids participated in.  If you have kids, not only will they have a great time seeing some of their favorite celebrities, but they also get the enjoyment of participating in so many kids activities.  There are even several panels for the kiddos on how to make their own comics, and they also will get the fun joy in making comics of their own.  Even if you don't have kids, you have the excitement of attending one of the best cons in the nation and also getting the joy of contributing to little ones while you are doing it.  Comic Book Classroom arranges excellent after school programs at various schools across the state to help kids learn how to read, write, and write their own comics.  For more information on Comic Book Classroom please be sure to visit their website and Facebook page.  They also have excellent pamphlets you can print from DCC's website.  Please come and join us for all the excitement at Denver Comic Con next year and contribute to children just by attending.  Stay tuned for more guest announcements this year, and please make sure you subscribe to Denver Comic Con's newsletter.

Tickets are selling fast so don't wait until last minute and make sure you pick them up soon.  Also make sure to subscribe to the newsletter on Denver Comic Con's website so you get all the updates. I hope to see everyone at Denver Comic Con 2014.

Event: Denver Comic Con Guest Announcements #5

Ever since last year's Denver Comic Con ended we have been pumped for DCC 2014, and so many great guests have been revealed already and more incredible guests have been added to next years event. Three more guests have been added and we can't wait to see them as well as some additional amazing guests for Denver Comic Con 2014.  There have already been some amazing artists added to next years list and Denver Comic Con has announced some more amazing artists for next year.

Since the Holidays there have been some great guest that have been announced, and of course one of the most exciting parts is the actors.  Bruce Campbell was announced, and I can say that I cannot be more thrilled.  I have not been at a con yet where he has been a guest, and I cannot be more excited to meet the Horror King himself.   Bruce Campbell is most known for his role in Evil Dead, but he also has a lot of other work including voice acting, directing, and is also known for his work in television.  He has done voices in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Cars 2 and is also known for acting in several television series.  Power Rangers Fans, Jason David Frank is also a guest at this years event.  Even though I am not a huge Power Ranger fan, this man always has great things to say and I could listen to him talk all day in a panel.  He also has a great sense of humor and is very enjoyable to listen to.

There have been so many great comic book artists, creators, writers announced for next years event, and after last years event I didn't think I could be more pleased with the artists, writers, and creators that they had until they started announcing the guests for this year.  A few people that I am absolutely ecstatic to see back are Dan Parent, George Perez, and Neal Adams.  Most people know who Dan Parent is, but he is mostly known for his work on Archie.  Not only was Dan's work with Archie phenomenal, but he also is such a huge idol to me because he brought so many great things into the comic book World such as interracial and same sex relationships at a time where it was not accepted into society.  Last year I was lucky enough to spend some time with Dan and I can't wait to see him again next year.  I also super stoked to see George Perez again, not only is the man talented but he is so enjoyable to be around and is such an upstanding guy.  His work includes but is not limited to: Crisis on Infinite Earths, Justice League of America, The Avengers, The Avengers Vs. Justice League of America and The New Teen Titans, War of the Gods, and Infinity Gauntlet. Any time I have the chance to pick up his work I do.  Stephen Leiber is also attending this years con and he is someone that I have not had the opportunity to meet and would absolutely love to.  He is most known for his work with the characters:  Batman, Superman, Hellboy and illustrated Max Allen Collins’ On the Road to Perdition.  Recently he did two graphic novels for Dark Horse Comics, and is also doing work for Marvel on the new Superior Foes for Spider-Man.  Last year we had the chance to catch up with Neal Adams at Mile High Comics Pre Denver Comic Con party, and also at Denver Comic Con.  He is such a great guy, and had so many great things to say last year and I can't wait to have some more conversations with him this year.  He really elaborated on his plans for his future last year, and I can't wait to see how that has changed for this year.  Neal Adams is one of my biggest idols and I can't wait to see him again.  Another person that is returning (who is usually a guest every year) is J Scott Campbell.  I also had the chance to speak with him last year for about 30 minutes and he is also a huge idol of mine and could not have been more excited.  J Scott Campbell is mostly known for his work with Danger Girl, but has also done a lot of work with Marvel, DC, and many more.  He also did the Denver Comic Con poster for last year, and I am hoping he does the one for this year also.  If you are a My Little Pony fan, or you have kids that are Andy Price is going to be a guest at Denver Comic Con this year.  The artists, writers and creators are absolutely unreal at Denver Comic Con and I can't wait for more announcements, and especially pumped for Artist Alley this year at Denver Comic Con.

Yesterday Denver Comic Con also announced some more guests and I almost fell out of my chair with excitement when they announced the next few guests.  The first guest that was announced was Jeremy Bulloch.  I absolutely loved his role as Boba Fett, and I am sure all the Star Wars fans out there are just as pumped as I am.  He is also known for his work in James Bond and also in some Doctor Who stories.  I think any fan could appreciate his talent and the work he has done over the years. The next guest that was announced is Chandler Riggs.  That's right Carl from The Walking Dead will a guest at Denver Comic Con this year for the second time.  Last year Chandler Riggs did not attend, but he was at Denver Comic Con in the first year.  I am hoping with Chandler Riggs and Michael Rooker as guests that we will also see some more Walking Dead cast at this years event.  Regardless I cannot be more excited that he is attending and can't wait for the opportunity to meet him and also Michael Rooker.

Denver Comic Con not only holds one of the best cons in the nation, but there are also some great benefits
when you attend.  The main benefit in going to Denver Comic Con is the proceeds go to Comic Book Classroom, a literacy program for kids.

Event: Excitement for Galaxy Fest III

This is the first event of the year for us, and as a smaller con its the perfect way to start out the con season.  Located up in Colorado Springs this is Galaxy Fest's third year, and our first year attending.  We are excited to see several attractions, and have the opportunity to catch up with friends as well as several guests.  There will also be some fun activities to meet all of our geeky needs.  This year I am reporting and helping out for our friends at Lords of Geek and I cannot be more excited.

One of the most exciting parts about Galaxy Fest is the guests, and  Galaxy Fest has some guests this year that I am sure you will enjoy.  The guests include but are not limited to:  Cara Nicole, Beverly Washburn, Jody Lynn Nye, James Hampton, Joyce De Witt, Kathy Garver, Laurie Jacobson, Mari Deese Hampton, Marta Kristen, Matthew Gurnsey, Paul Bradford, Richard Herd, Samantha Shu, and The Stubby Shillelaghs.  And let's not forget about all the exciting activities that Galaxy fest will have.  Just like any other event you will get to enjoy zombie fest as well as the film festival.  There will also be some great activities that everyone loves such as gaming and some fun panels for everyone to attend.  Everything from Steampunk to Doctor Who there should be a panel there for everyone to enjoy.  This is a great con to not feel so rushed to get from one panel or guest to the next.  Its great because you can enjoy all the attractions and actually have time to catch up with friends (and breathe) from one attraction to the next.  The panel I am most looking forward to is The Doctor Who panel.  I am also excited to catch up with the Film Festival, and see what the different guests have to say. The Film Festival is also having a Q&A session where you can meet and ask the film directors questions.  Its always fun to enjoy zombiefest, which will also be there.

If you are coming in from out of town or the Denver area Galaxy Fest has some great accommodations set up at the Antler's Hilton.  By attending you will get a discount for the hotel and also receive some convention bucks to spend along the way.  There are a few nights that are completely sold out on hotels, so call and grab yours fast before they sell out completely.  Regardless we hope to see you there, and please check out our coverage during and after the event.

Geek News: Guardian's of the Galaxy Worldwide Trailer

This morning we released a teaser trailer for Marvel's, Guardian's of the Galaxy set to be released August 1, 2014.  We were able to see some of the characters, and some flashes of action.  Now its time to see the trailer that was released  tonight on Jimmy Kimmel live, and I can say this trailer was well worth the excitement and anticipation.  We see some more in depth detail that we have all been waiting for. This movie looks so insanely good, and it might just be Marvel's best movie yet.  The wait for this movie to come out this summer is that much harder, and I am pumped to see this movie.  Here is the Worldwide trailer that was released tonight:

    Movie Review: The LEGO Movie

Fans across the globe have been pumped for the new LEGO movie and I will say that the box office and sell outs showed how excited LEGO fans were everywhere for this playful animated film. It was a little difficult to get tickets last night, and most places I checked hours in advance were sold out.  Luckily after some searching I was able to catch a later show and was so pumped to see this movie.

Everyone loves LEGOs, but it's even better when we have LEGOs and some of our favorite other geeky characters. One of my favorite Superhero's is Batman and he plays a major role in this movie.  The main characters and story focus on the two main characters, Emmet, Wyldstyle, and Batman.  We also see appearances from Green Lantern, Superman, Wonder Woman, and even some of our favorite half shell ninja friends.  And lets not forget some of our favorite Star Wars characters and ships. It was awesome seeing all of our favorite geeky characters, but another thing I loved was all the LEGO vehicles.  They had every creative LEGO vehicle that you could possibly imagine. From flying police cars to some awesome street cars the movie well over met the expectations on the creativity of the characters and the vehicles.

Let's not forget the impact this movie has on the little ones.  Not only will the kids enjoy every aspect of this movie but it's also educational.  One of my favorites was the encouragement for being able to do anything you set your mind to.  And they touched base on this several times.  From encouraging the little ones that they can build anything they want to encouraging them to achieve all their dreams and using their imaginations. The humor was something I enjoyed and especially Batman's overly cheesy and enjoyable voice. It may be the little kid in me, but this movie is extremely enjoyable for both kids and adults.  The humor and animation is just as pleasant for the adults as it is for the little ones.  This is one animated movie that really is meant for all age groups.

One thing that had me so excited for this movie was the voice actors chosen in this movie.  The excellent list of voice actors includes, but is not limited to Chris Pratt (Emmet), Will Ferrell (Lord Business/President Business/the Man Upstairs), Elizabeth Banks (Wyldstyle), Will Arnett (Batman), Nick Offerman (Metal Beard), Alison Brie (Unikitty), Charlie Day (Benny), Liam Neeson (Bad Cop/Good Cop/Pa Cop) and Morgan Freeman (Vitruvius).  There were so many great actors in this movie and they met every expectation that I was anticipating.

The excitement doesn't stop with the movie, there was also a LEGO movie video game that was released a few days ago.  And let's not forget all the new and exciting LEGO sets that will be coming out for the movie.  The LEGO Movie game was released yesterday as well as the movie and I am thoroughly excited to play it.  After the last LEGO game I purchased, LEGO Marvel I am extra excited to play the next one and upcoming LEGO games released in the future.  Since LEGO did their last game with Marvel I thought it was creative to include DC in the movie and also in the game to give the fans a wide variety of their favorite superheros.

This movie was one of the best animated films I had seen in a while, and I would even go back and see it again.  I loved it in every way and I would give it a 10 out of 10.  The only thing I would not recommend is paying extra to see this movie in 3D.  I didn't feel like the 3D was worth the extra money, but it also did not take away from the movie at all.  The 3D was not as spectacular as some of the other 3D movies I have seen, but I would still not think any less of the movie.  Critics across the nation have been saying nothing but great things about this movie and I could not agree with them more.
